Our Story

About Coral Creek

A course carved from coral rock, irrigated by the sea, and watched over by the Pueo — the Hawaiian short-eared owl. This is Coral Creek.

The Land

Born from the Ewa Plain

Long before the first tee shot was ever struck, the land that is now Coral Creek was a working sugar plantation on the Ewa Plain of Oahu. For generations, this land was farmed, shaped by the people and culture of Hawaii.

When the plantation era ended, the land found a new purpose — one that would honor its past while creating something entirely new. Coral Creek Golf Course was born here, rooted in the history of this place.

The Design

Carved from Coral Rock

Designed by renowned architect Robin Nelson and opened in 1999, Coral Creek is one of Oahu's most distinctive layouts. The course was literally excavated from solid coral rock — a feat that defines the character of every hole.

Stretching over 6,800 yards from the back tees, the par-72 layout winds through six groundwater lakes and a natural stream — Coral Creek itself — that gives the course its name. Four sets of tees ensure a memorable experience for every skill level.

"A course unlike anything else on Oahu — built from the land, shaped by the water, and defined by Hawaii."
— Coral Creek Golf Course

The Turf

Irrigated by the Sea

What makes Coral Creek truly unique is what grows underfoot. The entire course is grassed in Seashore Paspalum — a hybrid turf that thrives on saltwater irrigation. Every drop of water used to maintain these fairways and greens comes directly from the sea.

The result is a course that stays lush and green year-round while giving back to the environment. Seashore Paspalum is softer underfoot, more forgiving on wayward shots, and a testament to the harmony between golf and nature that defines Coral Creek.

The Legend of the Pueo

Named for the Land. Rooted in Hawaii.

The Pueo — the Hawaiian short-eared owl — has called the Ewa Plain home for generations. Long before the golf course existed, the Pueo watched over this land from the sugar plantation fields. In Hawaiian culture, the Pueo is considered an aumakua — a family guardian spirit.

When Coral Creek was designed, the Pueo was chosen as the symbol of the course — a nod to the history of the land and a promise to honor it. Today the owl watches over every round played here, a quiet reminder that Coral Creek is more than a golf course. It is a piece of Hawaii's story.
